Emma Roberts Joins ‘American Horror Story’ FX

Actress Emma Roberts is getting witchy on FX. The actress, no stranger to horror after starring in Scream 4, is in talks to join the cast of Ryan Murphy’s witch-themed TV creeper American Horror Story: Coven. Roberts would play a narcissistic party animal called Madison.

Dylan McDermott Joins ‘Mercy,’ An Adaptation Of Stephen King’s ‘Gramma’

Dylan McDermott (The Campaign) is moving from small-screen terror to big-screen horror as the actor has recently signed on to the latest Stephen King adaptation, Mercy, which is based on King’s short story “Gramma.” McDermott is best known at the moment for a recurring role on American Horror Story, which is must where he first caught producers’ eyes. McDermott joins previously cast young actors Chandler Riggs (The Walking Dead) and Joel Courtney (Super 8).

American Horror Story has been renewed for a third season, bringing back Jessica Lange for another sure to be enthralling character. Bryan Fuller’s Mockingbird Lane may have aired its aborted pilot this past Halloween, but his other NBC series, Hannibal has cast Eddie Izzard, Anna Chlumsky and Raul Esparza.

Television is obsessed with the horror genre and I must admit, as a horror genre fan I’m more than okay with a weekly infusion of terrifying thrills. Obviously beyond the genre, the series need to have some intriguing casting. Look no further than the A&E series Bates Motel is checking in Richard Harmon and American Horror Story is welcoming Ian McShane to the asylum.

The horror genre seems to be pilfering with small horror film gems, what with this past summer’s Fantasia International Film Festival being an exemplary of example, we now have one more festival circuit horror from director Rob Zombie, The Lords of Salem and the FX hit-series American Horror Story: Asylum. Both releasing new trailers and both are disturbing in their respective ways.

[UPDATE #3] Nurse Jackie is adding Betty Gilpin with a season-long arc on the Showtime series’ fifth season; while Weeds alums Natasha Lyonne, Pablo Schreiber and Michael Harney re-team with Jenji Kohan on her Netflix series Orange Is The New Black. Body of Proof also nabs Ivan Sergei and Richard Burgi.

FX is rapidly expanding their current notorious line-up of Sons of Anarchy, Louie, American Horror Story and Justified into new and somewhat familiar territory. Last week, the network picked up Guillermo Del Toro’s The Strain (co-written with Chuck Hogan) which was originally being pitched as a TV series. Just this week, FX also decidedly bought Fargo as a TV series with Joel and Ethan Coen exec-producing.
