Sam Taylor-Johnson Confirmed to Helm ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Adaptation
Universal Pictures has found their Fifty Shades of Grey director: Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the much-anticipated adaptation of E.L. James’ bestselling novel.
Taylor-Johnson is perhaps best known for directing 2009′s Nowhere Boy, a drama about John Lennon’s childhood in Liverpool. She is also developing a film for Columbia based on the novel ‘A Reliable Wife’, by Robert Goolrick.
The three books in the ‘Fifty Shades’ series have sold more than 70 million copies in ebook and print, making the film adaptation a hot commodity. Last year, Universal and Focus Features purchased the movie rights for $5 million and hired writer Kelly Marcel to write the script for the first film.
Universal is hoping to have the film ready for a release in summer of 2014.
