‘The Descendants’ Scribes Get Busy With Pilot, Kristen Wiig & ‘The Way, Way Back’ (UPDATE)

[UPDATE #1] April 19, 2012 – Steve Carell and Toni Collette are reuniting for the Oscar-winning scribes of The Descendants Jim Rash & Nat Faxon for their directorial debut The Way, Way Back. Carell and Collette co-starred together in Little Miss Sunshine and will be joining a cast that already includes Sam Rockwell, Allison Janney and Annasophia Robb. Read more after the jump. The Way, Way Back is a story “about a young boy who finds himself as he deals with his inattentive mother and cheating stepfather during a summer vacation. Collette will play the mother and Carell, playing a bit against type, will be the drug-using stepdad.”
[Original] You know that afterbirth-glow mothers get? Well, the same is applicable to Oscar winners. The Descendants scribes are on a role and the momentum will not stop them. Winning for adapted screenplay at the Academy Awards has Nat Faxon the lead in a Fox comedy pilot Ned Fox is My Manny. Secondly, with co-writer and winner Jim Rash, the duo have sold an action-comedy that will star Kristen Wiig.
Ned is My Manny revolves around Abby Elliott’s Kate, “a single mother who gets an assist from her brother who moves in with her to help her raise her baby in the project previously known as Ben Fox is My Manny.” Faxon will be playing Kate’s brother, Ned Fox. Fexon has also been doing some voice roles on Allen Gregory, The Cleveland Show and episodes of Happy Endings, Party Down and Happy Hour.
In addition to this, Faxon and writing partner Jim Rash has sold to Indian Paintbrush an original action-comedy pitch that will star Kristen Wiig. Produced by Kevin Walsh, the duo will serve as executive producers as Wiig’s deal is being discussed. Faxon, Rash and Wiig worked together when in the Los Angeles improve troupe the Groundlings. Faxon and Rash will also be making their directorial debut with a Black List script The Way, Way Back with Sam Rockwell and Allison Janney.
