[UPDATE] May 4, 2012 – Check out the new poster for a Fantastic Fear of Everything, starring Simon Pegg, after the jump. [Dead Central]

[Original] The crowd-pleasing Simon Pegg is back with a new trailer for his delightfully eccentric film, A Fantastic Fear of Everything. In this dark surrealist comedy, Pegg’s character Jack is a children’s author turned crime novelist whose research on Victorian murderers has made him a paranoid insomniac. The trailer, driven by a wonderful soundtrack, explores Pegg’s manic visions and a whole cast of eerie characters, including a rather creepy stop-motion hedgehog. Pegg himself looks the part of the traumatized novelist, bearded and hairy, often shown in various stages of undress, clearly beleaguered by various inner demons.

A Fantastic Fear of Everything was written by newcomer Crispian Mils, frontman for the English rock band Kula Shaker. Mils also co-directed the film with Chris Hopewell, another greenhorn filmmaker. For their first feature this is quite an impressive trailer, and their quirky black humour is sure to bring them a solid cult fan base following the film’s debut.

Pegg, star of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, can most recently be seen onscreen in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, opposite Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner. He is also currently filming a sequel to JJ Abrams’ Star Trek as the scene-stealing engineer Scotty.

A Fantastic Fear of Everything is set to premiere in the UK on June 8th but is currently without a North American release date, meaning all we can do is sit tight and wait.
