[UPDATE #1] Interview with Director Rian Johnson, by Alex Billington of FirstShowing.
[ORIGINAL] Two photos of Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the upcoming sci-fi movie Looper have just been released. The film takes place in the future where time travel is possible, but not legal. Gordon-Levitt plays a looper named Joe who works for the mob by travelling into the past to kill people. When the mob decides to close the loop, it results in sending back Joe’s future self (played by Bruce Willis) for execution.
This movie is being directed by Rian Johnson, the man behind the stellar genre mash-up debut, Brick and The Brothers Bloom (the former featured Gordon-Levitt). It also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano and Jeff Daniels. At first glance, Looper sounds like it will bear similarities with The Terminator and maybe even Minority Report in regards to controlling time and facing the difficulties that come along with it.
It should be interesting to see Bruce Willis in another sci-fi movie considering that it has been many years since he has contributed to the genre, in films such as Twelve Monkeys, Armageddon and The Fifth Element.
Looper will be released on September 28th, 2012.

Here is Looper’s synopsis:
In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good… until the day the mob decides to “close the loop,” sending back Joe’s future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination. The film is written and directed by Rian Johnson and also stars Emily Blunt, Paul Dano, and Jeff Daniels. Ram Bergman and James D. Stern produce.
