Natalie Portman in Back-To-Back Terrence Malick Films (UPDATE: Shea Whigham Cast, Others Cut)
[UPDATE #3] Shea Whigham has joined the cast of Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups and rumor has it that Malick’s other film To The Wonder has cut several performances from the film altogether during post-producing, including Michael Sheen, Amanda Peet, Barry Pepper, Jessica Chastain and Rachel Weisz, who spoke to an Italian newspaper ”I had the experience of working with him, but I will not have the pleasure of seeing my work.”
[UPDATE #2] Ryan O’Neal has joined the cast, tweeting: “Had a great day shooting on Terrence Malick’s new film with the wonderful Natalie Portman @NPortmanFans & Christian Bale@Christian_bale_” with a picture. There’s also been rumors that Antonio Banderas and Joe Manganiello have shot scenes for the film.
[UPDATE #1] Looks like the Ben Affleck-starring Terrence Malick film has finally gotten an new title, To The Wonder. Check out the film’s plot synopsis after the jump.
To The Wonder follows a philanderer (Affleck) who, feeling at loose ends, travels to Paris, where he enters a hot-and-heavy affair with a European woman (Olga Kurylenko). Said Lothario returns home to Oklahoma, where he marries the European woman (in part for visa reasons). When the relationship founders, he rekindles a romance with a hometown girl (Rachel McAdams) with whom he’s had a long history.
[Original] I’m in love with Terrence Malick’s currently Oscar-nominated The Tree of Life and I hope it wins big. Natalie Portman simply blew me away with her performance in Black Swan. Both will be working on back-to-back projects, Knights of Cups and Lawless. Excitement ensues.
Once you factor the talent joining these two working together, it almost seems like a “dream movie cast” situation and we couldn’t have made a better choice. In Knights of Cups, Portman will be joined by Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas, while Lawless will again see Portman, Bale, Blanchett, Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett. We’re serious, that’s the current cast.
“Malick’s been on a roll lately, with some four projects due out over the next two years. Which would be a lot for any director, but it’s especially impressive given that Malick made just five movies total between 1973 and 2011. With Voyage of Time and his untitled romance featuring Javier Bardem, Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams now in post, he’s getting the pieces together to film Knight of Cups and Lawless in the coming months, and Portman has landed back-to-back roles in both.”
These films will be Portman’s first post-Oscar projects (having won Best Actress for Black Swan), the details are scarce per the usual with films from Malick.
