The alcoholic drifter (Joaquin Phoenix) and religious cult leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman), one is a former WWII sailor suffering from blackouts and the other’s faith organization begins gaining popularity in America. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood), the film has already culled some controversy with its barely disguised threads to Scientology.
