[UPDATE #6] Check out the new international trailer for Life of Pi after the jump.

[UPDATE #5] Tobey Maguire has been recast with Rafe Spall, all because director Ang Lee deemed Maguire too recognizable. Ang Lee says, “To be consistent with the other casting choices made for the film, I decided to go with an entirely international cast. I very much admire Tobey and look forward to working with him again in the future.” Even MAguire supports the decision, ”I fully support Ang’s decision to go a different direction for this role in Life of Pi. Ang shared a lot of the film with me, and what I saw was absolutely beautiful.”

[UPDATE #4] Check out after the jump the new roaring poster of Life of Pi starring its other non-human co-star, a tiger.

[UPDATE #3] Check out some new photos from Life of Pi after the jump. They’re stellar and highlight actor Suraj Sharma.

[Original] Truly astonishing and awe-inducing, Life of Pi seems to be a visual feast that I hope will translate into box-office success. Fox Searchlight has released several banner posters and a new clips. Directed by Ang Lee, this literary adaptation seems to be gaining attention and the clip shows “an early encounter between protagonist Pi (newcomer Suraj Sharma) and the tiger Richard Parker, with whom Pi gets stranded at sea after a shipwreck.”

Check out the clip below:

The film is likely to have a great reception, but its box-office appeal is an odd one. On the one hand it’s in 3D and a (supposed) spectable, but the material doesn’t seem to lend to mass appeal even as a much-beloved novel.

Based on the novel by Yann Martel, the film features Irrfan Khan, Gérard Depardieu, Tobey Maguire, Adil Hussain, and Shravanthi Sainath Tabu. Life of Pi will be in theaters November 21, 2012. Check out the official website here.
