Alex Pettyfer Joins Long List of Actors in Lee Daniel’s ‘The Butler’; Vanessa Redgrave Circling (UPDATE: Nelsan Ellis Joins as MLK, Set Photos)

[UDPATE #5] Nelsan Ellis (scene-stealer Lafayette on True Blood) is joining the cast as Martin Luther King Jr. You can also check out these set photos after the jump.

[UPDATE #4] Lee Daniel’s The Butler has added some new cast members: Liev Schriber as Lyndon B. Johnson, as well as Mariah Carey and Yaya DaCosta in undisclosed roles. Quincy Jones will also be scoring the film.

[UPDATE #3] James Marsters is set to join Lee Daniel’s The Butler in the role previously intended for Matthew McConaughey and Aml Ameen joins as the younger version of Forest Whitaker’s character.

[UPDATE #2] Check out Robin Williams,  not only did he play President Theodore Roosevelt in Night at the Museum, but will now get the chance to portray Dwight D. Eisenhower in The Butler from director Lee Daniels (Precious) which is about ”the true story of Eugene Allen and his 34 years at the White House. Allen worked for eight presidents, starting with Harry Truman in 1952 and ending in 1986 with Ronald Reagan.”

[UPDATE #1] Colman Domingo has been cast in Lee Daniels’ The Butler as a “White House butler who works in the Executive Mansion”. Domingo has had roles in The Scottsboro Boys  and Chicago, soon to be seen in several high-profile films from Spike Lee (Red Hook Summer), Jackie Robinson biopic (42) and Steven Spielberg (Lincoln).

[Original] It seems that Lee Daniels has a never ending cast for his latest film The Butler, recently casting Alex Pettyfer (Magic Mike, I Am Number Four) and with Vanessa Redgrave circling to join. The film’s cast already includes Forest Whitaker, Alan Rickman, Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr, Terrance Howard, and Lenny Kravitz. Pettyfer would play Thomas Westphall, who “appears early in the life of Forest Whitaker’s character and has a pivotal influence on the rest of that character’s life.” Redgrave is in negotiations to join the cast and her role is yet unknown.

About a month ago, Nicole Kidman was possibly going to reunite with director Daniels, having previously collaborated together on The Paperboy. Matthew McConaughey recent bowed out of the film.

Other cast members include Jane Fonda, Mila Kunis, John Cusack, David Oyelowo, Jesse Williams and Minka Kelly.

The Butler “tells the story of Eugene Allen, the late White House butler who served eight presidents during his tenure from 1952 to 1986.
