Spike Lee is the Latest Filmmaker to Take to Kickstarter for Funding
Spike Lee is following in the footsteps of Zach Braff and Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas by turning to crowd-funding site Kickstarter to help foot the bill for his next film project.
The acclaimed filmmaker has launched a campaign asking people to help him raise $1.25 million for a film about people’s obsession with violence. In a video on the site, Lee also notes there will be “a lot of sex in it too”.
Lee says he won’t be taking a free for the project, and that those who contribute $5 will receive a Tweet from Lee himself, thanking them, as well as updates on the project. From there, incentives increase, and range from and autographed DVD to a phone call from Lee. Those who contribute at least $10,000 get to take part in a dinner and New York Knicks game with the Do the Right Thing director.
The campaign will run for 30 days, until August 21st. Lee’s next film is the remake of the hyper-violent Korean classic Oldboy, out this fall.
