Dream Movie Casting: An All-Female Cast for Tarantino’s ‘Reservoir Dogs’
Every once in a while, there’s that fresh idea that begs the question: “Why hasn’t someone already done this?” Here’s one from Native Audio Grrrl who was thinking the exact same thing and decided to make an all-female cast of Quentin Tarantino’s breakout film Reservoir Dogs. Seriously! Although the choices are fantastic, I’d make slight changes and we made a fake poster to boot. See the cast after the jump.
Joe Cabot / Glenn Close
Originally played by Lawrence Tierney, we could see either Glenn Close or Melissa Leo taking over the part. Nobody does more of an intimidating stare than Glenn Close, whom I’m currently in awe from her lead role on Damages as Patty Hewes. Cutthroat and vicious.
Nice Guy Eddie / Alison Pill
The wild card of the bunch and certainly the “newbie”, Christina Ricci does have that wide-eyed innocence and humor necessary (in what made the role so frantic thanks to in part by Chris Penn). As much as I love Ricci, she’s done these parts before and I’d rather see Alison Pill (Midnight in Paris) take on this role.
Mr. White / Catherine Keener
There’s no one harder to fill in than Harvey Keitel and so you’d need an equally commanding screen presence. The dream casting was looking at Catherine Keener, Frances McDormand and Holly Hunter to fill the role. I’ll give an edge to Catherine Keener because she’s just wonderfully awesome in Where The Wild Things Are and The 40 Year Old Virgin.
Mr. Orange / Melanie Laurent
Tim Roth played the undercover cop who spends most of his screen time bleeding to death. With a particularly calm and controlled actress, Melanie Laurent has been suggested for the role, but I’d rather want to re-appropriate by casting Christina Ricci for this role. [Unfortunately, when put to a vote at DMC HQ, Inglorious Basterds alum Laurent won out in this role.]
Mr. Pink / Toni Collette
Very few can mimic Steve Buscemi’s style and it comes as no surprise that Toni Collette would carry the absolutely absurdity of not tipping a waitress and getting away from a shootout with the money.
Mr. Blonde / Carrie Ann Moss
Ah the madman, er… woman. Michael Madsen had that quiet energy that suddenly burst into onscreen insanity. As much as we all wish for Angelina Jolie to return to her Girl, Interrupted roots, we can’t hold our breath. Instead I’d suggest Carrie Ann Moss who surely brought the manipulative anger in Memento. She’s an actress we’d love to hate all over again.
Mr. Brown / Uma Thruman
An equally epic cameo from director Quentin Tarantino deserves an equally epic female cameo. Uma Thurman, no contest. Nobody else would be able to sell Tarantino’s Like A Virgin monologue.
Who would you guys cast in an all-female cast of Reservoir Dogs?
