Kidman and Firth to Co-Star in ‘Paddington’

Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman are joining The Weinstein Company’s adaptation of children’s literature classic Paddington Bear, called Paddington. The film will be the first release through the company’s new label TWC-Dimension, in which Harvey and Bob Weinstein will collaborate on films.

Ellen Page to Star in Comic Adaptation “Queen & Country”

Ellen Page is in negotiations to star in Queen & Country for 20th Century Fox, based on an independently produced comic of the same name. The studio is likely looking to turn the comic series into a new franchise.

Written by Greg Rucka, the graphic novel series follows the adventures of Tara Chace, an operative of the Special Operations Section of SIS, known as the Minders. The series takes a more grounded approach to the bureaucracy and politics of espionage than the popular James Bond or Mission Impossible series. The film is expected to deal with the fallout after an assassination mission wherein Chace’s identity it compromised.

Sherlock fans the world over were disappointed to learn that  Benedict Cumberbatch is opting out of Guillermo Del Toro’s latest horror opus, Crimson Peak. However, they can take comfort knowing that fellow classically-trained brooding Brit actor, Tom Hiddleston, will be taking his place.

“50 Shades of Grey” Film finds its Anastasia Steel and Christian Grey

After an exhaustive search leaving many fans on pins and needles, the leads have been cast for the adaptation of global literary blockbuster 50 Shades of Grey. Dakota Johnson will play Anastasia Steel and Charlie Hunnam will take over the role of Christian Grey.

E.L. James, author of the book series, revealed the news the morning of September 2nd in a tweet.

Disney/Pixar announces Vocal Talent for Upcoming Slate

At the D23 expo in Anaheim, CA, Disney announced the voice casts for a number of their upcoming animated offerings on Friday.

Set for release in May of next year, Disney/Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur will include the vocal talents of John Lithgow, Frances McDormand, Bill Hader, Neil Patrick Harris, Lucas Neff and Judy Greer. The film takes place in a modern day world in which dinosaurs never went extinct, but instead evolved to great intelligence.

Amber Tamblyn joining ‘Two and a Half Men’

After much searching, actress Amber Tamblyn will be adding a female touch to CBS’ “Two and a Half Men.”

Tamblyn will play Jenny, Charlie Harper’s illegitimate daughter. Jenny has moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting and connect with this part of her family. She has much in common with her dad, including his affinity for women. Currently, Tamblyn is set to co-star in five episodes, but if she stands out, her character could eventually become a co-star on the show, anchoring stars Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher. She would also fill the space left by Angus T. Jones.

Kyra Sedgwick finds ‘The Road Within’

The Closer‘s Kyra Sedgwick is following the road inside. The actress has joined the cast of Gren Wells’ The Road Within.

The film focuses on a young man who suffers from Tourette’s syndrome (played by The Mortal Instruments‘ Robert Sheehan) who escapes from a residential home along with an anorexic woman (played by Zoe Kravitz) and his roommate (played by Dev Patel) who has obsessive compulsive disorder. The reason for the escape? To take Sheehan’s character’s mother’s ashes and have a burial at sea. Sedgwick plays Dr. Mia Rose, who supervises the clinic where the three escapees are patients.

That’s what Key and Peele call Bruce Willis. It’s kind of hilarious and makes him seem less weird and more like the action star I’ve grown up with. And apparently Sly Stallone feels the same way as he announced Willis’ exit from Expendables 3 with a little too much relish, “WILLIS OUT…HARRISON FORD IN!!!! GREAT NEWS!!!!! Been waiting years for this!!!!” Folks, that is a lot of exclamation points and in manly man code, it means, “Bruce Willy sucks, yo!”

Ed Harris to Join ‘Cymbeline’

Long-time character/actor and occasional leading-man Ed Harris has signed to join the cast of a new adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Cymbeline.

The film will be a modern retelling of the classic play, with the action unfolding amid a backdrop of a corruption-riddled 21st century America, wherein a rivalry between dirty cops and a drug-dealing biker gang sets the story in motion. Harris will play King Cymbeline, while Ethan Hawke, who received many positive notices for his turn as Hamlet in an updated 2000 film version of the play, will also star.

‘Bourne’ Franchise to Return with Jeremy Renner

After Matt Damon failed to express interest in returning as Jason Bourne, Universal Pictures has opted to bring back Jeremy Renner for a fifth installment in the Bourne series.

Anthony Peckham has been hired to write the screenplay for the follow-up to The Bourne Legacy, which saw agent Aaron Cross, played by Renner, on the run from the same secret operatives who had been on Jason Bourne’s trail in the previous three films.

Nicolas Cage in ‘The Dying of the Light’

Nicolas Cage is helping the light to shine once more. Cage will play the lead role in a film called The Dying of the Light,  which was originally supposed to be directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, and to star Harrison Ford and Channing Tatum, until Ford abandoned the project.

The cast of Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi movie Interstellar has just filled two new roles, bringing some needed diversity to the round-up of stars.

Relatively unknown African-American actors David Oyelowo from The Butler and David Gyasi from Cloud Atlas are the two bright new additions. The men join the starpower ranks of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Casey Affleck and Michael Caine.

Alec Baldwin joins Untitled Cameron Crowe Project

The notorious Alec Baldwin might have a new project to crow about. The actor is in talks to join Cameron Crowe’s untitled new project, which is reported to be a love story similar in tone to a couple of his other films, including Almost Famous and Jerry Maguire.

Other members of the cast include Bradley Cooper, Emma Stone, Rachel McAdams and Danny McBride. Crowe will write and direct the film and Scott Rudin will produce.

Bella Thorne to Have a ‘No Good, Very Bad Day’

Disney Channel star Bella Thorne is the latest to join the case of Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Based on the popular and acclaimed children’s book of the same name written by Judith Viorst, the film tells the story of a boy, to be played by Ed Oxenbould, who has a particularly bad day and discovers that other people can have them too. Thorne, who plays the girlfriend of Alexander’s older brother,  joins a cast that also includes Steve Carrell and Jennifer Garner in the adult roles, while Miguel Arteta is directing.
