MGM and Fox Reboot ‘Poltergeist’ Why?

Posted at June 21, 2013 by 0 Comment

I loved Carol Ann and Zelda Rubinstein in all of her creepy, small glory. I loved Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams. I loved 1982. But I did not love Poltergeist 2 or 3. Even with the amazing sassy pants of technology these days, I gotta ask, “Do we really need another Poltergeist.” I asked myself that as I’m alone right now. I’m kind of wondering about my sanity these days.

Anyway…It just seems a little like “Who Cares?” after so much has happened with ghosty like demony things. I’m still amazed they are still making Paranormal Activities down at the Paranormal Activity factory.

We know that studios love to remake stuff. They love to second guess. They get in their own way. But sometimes, just sometimes, they let good things occur.

The facts as we know them via Variety: MGM and Fox 2000 Pictures are teaming up to make the picture. Gil Kenan (Monster House) is slated to direct. But here’s where we scratch the record… Sam Damn Raimi and Rob Tapert (The Possession) are producing through their Ghost House Pictures shop along with Roy Lee.

So things just got interesting. And hopefully, terrifying. MGM was responsible for the trio of Poltergeistesis during the 80s. The first film had Spielberg and Frank Marshall. Then it got weird. Then boring and then it was the 90s.

David Lindsay-Abaire (Oz: The Great and Powerful) is at the pen and is giving the plot a modern rev up: Family with economic woes moves into old house in the suburbs and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter. I’m guessing somebody’s got to tie a rope around Dad while he goes into the flat screen to save the kid. Plus, don’t these guys know about the legend of the bad luck foisted on cast members and stuff? Geez. Google that, guys.

But seriously, at this point in time, all they need is Jessica Lange in a nun outfit (American Horror Story). I wish them the best but…um, yeah.

I just want to know who’s playing Zelda? There’s an evil presence in this casting office.
