TV Recap: Mad Men Season 5, Episode 7: “At The Codfish Ball”

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 30, 2012 by

“There comes a time when every little girl will spread her legs and fly away.” This should give you an idea where the mind of Megan’s father, Emile is at. As we saw last night he clearly doesn’t understand or sympathize with Don, because Don believes him to be a socialist or communist. Not to say that sexual subtext is all there is to Mad Men this season, but boy does it ever take center stage. So does Sally Draper in all that “growing up” hilarity.

Richard Linklater’s ‘Bernie’ Starring Jack Black (Trailer)

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 30, 2012 by

Richard Linklater is one of those odd kind of directors whose projects vary in tone. I doubt anyone has made much of his new film Bernie, starring Jack Black, that the film opened up this past Friday. Based on Skip Hollandsworth’s January 1998 article “Midnight in the Garden of East Texas” in Texas Monthly, you can check out the trailer for Bernie after the jump.

‘Peace, Love & Understanding’ Starring Jane Fonda, Catherine Keener & Elizabeth Olsen (Trailer)

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 30, 2012 by

Can you do wrong by casting Jane Fonda, Catherine Keener and Elizabeth Olsen? The answer should be a resounding “No”, but this trailer has me skeptical. Directed by Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy), Peace, Love & Misunderstanding plays those expected notes from an indie film and looks like comfort watching. Then again, I could be completely wrong and will be pleasantly surprised. Check it out after the jump.

Retro Minimalist-Poster For Spielberg and Hitchcock Films

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 30, 2012 by

Why can’t Hollywood take a cue from these posters proliferating the internet? They’re simple, concise and demonstrate a great deal of artistry for the film and its designer. I guess those highly photoshopped posters “sell” the movie and its star in a much better fashion. Artist Alain Bossuyt has created some really wonderful posters for Hitchcock, Spielberg, the Bond series and some other nifty ones. Check them out after the jump.

[UPDATE #2] April 30, 2012 – Seriously?! This cast now includes the ever amazing Willem Dafoe. Although Dafoe has been one of those “he looks like a bad guy” in films, recently cast Woody Harrelson has that spot. My curiosity has been intensified. [Movie News]

Detailed Look at Spider-Man’s Mechanical Web-Shooters

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 27, 2012 by

While it may have come as a disappointment to hardcore comic book fans that Raimi’s SpiderMan had organic web-shooters, it seemed that with time most people settled into the idea that it would be far less ridiculous than showing a teenager create some of the most incredible bracelets and fluid (aka mechanical web-shooters) the world has ever known. Marc Webb and co. seem to disagree as they have opted for the latter and tonight The Amazing Spiderman fan page has released 11 detailed images showcasing the evolution of those bracelets (a pair of repurposed wristwatches), from sketch to 3D model. See them after the jump.

New Stills & Promo Images For ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 27, 2012 by

It all seems surreal, this summer will see an Avengers movie, Spider-Man and Batman.  That’s one cluttered superhero summer of big blockbuster productions. They bring in the big money and soon enough, audiences will tire of them. Until then, we have some new images from The Dark Knight Rises and some promotional pictures involving the Bane, Bats and his mobilizing vehicles.

Don’t Smell What The Rock Is Cooking in Michael Bay’s ‘Pain & Gain’

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 27, 2012 by

Well, this is just plain old creepy if you ask me. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has been spied on the set of Michael Bay’s meathead/lunkhead film (when isn’t Bay making a film cranked on testosterone) in Pain and Gain. Check out the photo below.

Rooney Mara in ‘Brooklyn’, Replaces Carey Mulligan in Untitled Spike Jonze Film

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 27, 2012 by

Spike Jonze first feature film after Where the Wild Things Are seem to be in shape except for a little recasting news. Rooney Mara has just taken over Carey Mulligan’s role (the actress pulled out due to schedule issues) and the Dragon Tattoo lady is the locking down the cast. Jones wrote the script for the new film and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams and Samantha Morton. Mara has also been cast in an adaptation of Colm Toibin’s novel Brooklyn.

Seeing Green: Comparing Bruce Banner in the Decades Hulk Trilogy

CHECK IT OUT

Posted at April 26, 2012 by

Bruce Banner and his alter-ego, the Hulk, are very well known in the general public. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1962, he represented the powerless and those who fought back against those wielding power. The late 70s saw the TV series The Incredible Hulk come to fruition and took another three decades before the superhero would appear on the big screen, inhabited by three different actors: Eric Bana in Hulk, Edward Norton in The Incredible Hulk and Mark Ruffalo in the upcoming film The Avengers.  Who’s to say which film was best when this CGI monster has struggled to find a proper adaptation in the last decade.
