Disney has tapped Edgar Wright to direct The Night Stalker, a remake of the ABC telepic and series produced during the 70s and to star Johnny Depp as intrepid tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak. The film is to be produced by Depp and his Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski.

The funny keeps on coming for the big screen. Nick Offerman will be seen in Diablo Cody’s directorial debut Lamb of God; while Montreal hometown actor Jay Baruchel will be reteaming with Seth Rogen for The Apocalypse who is also making his directorial debut.

Box-office success to a so-so film is clearly the place to be nowadays. Both Red and I Am Legend were somewhat surprises (relative to expectations) and therefore, if there’s a buck to be made it will get a sequel. Morgan Freeman is expected to return to Red, a group of “over-the-hill special ops agents forced out of retirement”. Will Smith is also planning to return to I Am Legend in a sequel/prequel grey area.

Amanda Knox, recently acquitted of murdering her British roommate in Italy, has sold her memoirs to HarperCollins making it sound like the Italian Police had a conspiracy against this “All-American Girl”. You know another movie isn’t far behind and so… my vote is for Elizabeth Olsen who did some mesmerizing work in ‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’.

Scene-stealer or just highlight of the movie, Patton Oswalt has been cast in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, directed and starring Ben Stiller. While avidly vocal about US politics, Roseanne Barr is in talks to reunite with Roseanne on-screen hubby John Goodman for her new comedy pilot Downward Mobile on NBC.
